If you’ve spotted a flash of Typhoo red rolling past you recently, you’re not imagining things. Our brand-new Typhoo trucks are officially out on the roads, travelling far and wide across the UK with one clear message: there’s more 'ooO' in every brew.

Taking Our Message on the Road

Tea is part of everyday life in Britain – from the first mug of the morning to the brew that brings everyone together later in the day. So rather than keeping our message behind screens or supermarket shelves, we wanted to take it directly to the places where life happens.

Our three unmissable Typhoo trucks are now touring the UK, proudly showcasing our bold new look and our promise of a richer, more satisfying cup of tea. Whether you catch one on the motorway, passing through a city, or pulling into a distribution hub, these trucks are designed to stop you in your tracks (safely, of course!).

Today, we’re taking you inside the Typhoo factory to show how our tea is blended, packed and prepared before it reaches your kitchen. A factory built around quality and consistency Our manufacturing facility is designed to balance efficiency with care. Tea is a natural product, and no two harvests are ever the same. That’s why consistency is at the heart of everything we do. From the moment tea leaves arrive on site to the moment finished packs are sealed and dispatched, every stage is carefully controlled to ensure the same familiar Typhoo taste you know and trust. From leaf to blend Every batch of Typhoo tea starts with carefully selected tea leaves sourced from trusted Rainforest Alliance Certified growers around the world. These leaves are chosen for their flavour, strength and quality, then blended to create the balanced taste Typhoo is known for. Blending is both an art and a science. Our expert tea supplier works to precise recipes, adjusting blends when needed to account for natural variations in tea crops. This ensures that no matter when or where you buy Typhoo, your cup tastes just right. Precision packing, done efficiently Once we’ve received our speciality tea blend, the leaves move to our packing lines. This is where technology plays a key role. Our facility uses modern, efficient equipment designed to: Accurately dose tea into each bag Seal packs securely to protect quality Minimise waste and manual handling Recent investments in automation have helped us improve efficiency while maintaining high quality standards. These improvements allow us to reduce unnecessary materials and focus on doing the job properly, rather than adding complexity where it isn’t needed. Why our packaging choices matter Manufacturing and packaging go hand in hand. Every packaging decision we make is considered not just for shelf appearance, but for how it performs in the factory and at home. For example, moving away from foil inside our boxes (you can read more about this in our Packaging Blog here >) has allowed us to simplify our packing process without affecting tea quality. It reduces materials, energy use and complexity, all while delivering the same great cup of tea. Our boxes and outer packaging are designed to be: Fit for purpose Easy to recycle Responsibly sourced Sometimes the most responsible choice is the simplest one. A focus on safety and standards Food safety is non-negotiable. Our factory operates to strict food manufacturing standards, with procedures in place to protect both our people and our products. Regular audits, training and equipment maintenance ensure that the environment remains clean, controlled and compliant - so you can feel confident in every cup. Our Packaging: Simple, Thoughtful and Fit for Purpose

At Typhoo, we know our customers care not just about what’s in their cup, but also how it gets there. That’s why we’ve taken a considered, practical approach to our packaging, focusing on quality, sustainability and honesty, rather than unnecessary extras. This page is designed to answer any questions you may have about our packaging formats, including recent changes you might have noticed. Why have we removed foil from our tea boxes? You may have noticed that our tea bags are no longer wrapped in foil inside the box. This wasn’t a decision we took lightly, and it’s one we considered carefully from both a quality and sustainability point of view. There are two key reasons behind this change: 1. Foil is only ‘foil fresh’ until it’s opened - Once a foil bag is opened, it offers no additional freshness benefit compared to storing tea bags in a standard box. In other words, from the moment you open the pack at home, the experience is the same. Our tea is blended, packed and sealed to the same high standards, and removing the foil has no impact on taste, aroma or quality. 2. Foil isn’t environmentally or operationally efficient - Running foil-wrapping equipment uses additional materials, energy and cost – without delivering a meaningful benefit to the product itself. Removing foil allows us to reduce unnecessary packaging and focus resources where they really matter: on the tea. Across the tea industry, it’s becoming increasingly common to move away from foil for this very reason. We don’t see it as a step back, but a step towards more sensible, modern packaging. What about freshness and quality? Rest assured: removing foil does not compromise the quality of our tea.Tea is a naturally stable dry product, and when stored as recommended – in a cool, dry place – it maintains its flavour and freshness perfectly well in a box. Our blends, ingredients and packing standards remain exactly the same as before. Simply put: the tea you love hasn’t changed, just the way it’s wrapped. Our tea boxes: fully recyclable and responsibly sourced All our tea boxes are: 100% FSC® Certified 100% recyclable FSC (Forest Stewardship Council®) certification means the paperboard used in our packaging comes from responsibly managed forests. These forests are independently audited to ensure they protect wildlife, support local communities and maintain environmental standards. By choosing FSC-certified materials, we’re making sure our packaging comes from a trusted, sustainable source without compromising strength, quality or shelf appeal. Poly bags for catering For our catering and foodservice ranges, we use poly bags to protect larger quantities of tea bags. These poly bags are: Fully recyclable at large supermarkets Not suitable for home kerbside recycling Many larger supermarkets offer dedicated soft plastic recycling points, which are the best place to recycle these bags. While they can’t currently be recycled at home, they are designed to be recovered and reused when taken to the correct facilities. Outer boxes: practical by design Our outer transit boxes are also: 100% FSC® Certified 100% recyclable These boxes are designed for transport and protection, not presentation. Once the inner box is removed and placed on shelf, the outer packaging has done its job. We don’t believe in “fancy” outer packaging where it isn’t needed. Keeping these boxes simple reduces waste, materials and cost – without affecting the product you buy. Why we’ve chosen a simpler approach At Typhoo, we believe packaging should be: Fit for purpose Easy to recycle Responsibly sourced Honest about what it does (and doesn’t) do Rather than adding layers that don’t improve the product, we focus on making thoughtful choices that balance quality, sustainability and value.
